Stay Off The Ice: North Reading FD Warn Of Cracking Pond
One child fell through the ice but was able to pull themselves out before fire crews arrived.
NORTH READING, MA — North Reading fire officials are warning residents to stay off the icy ponds in town, especially as temperatures warm up.
On Tuesday, fire crews received a call about kids walking on the ice at Ipswich River Park. When they got to the park they found the kids on the ice and one had already fallen through but was able to pull themselves out before rescuers were called.
The North Reading Fire Department union posted a photo and recap of the incident warning about the dangers of unstable ice.

"This could have ended much differently, even gently moving water can pull someone under the ice shelf once they fall through, which often has a tragic outcome," the union wrote, "Thankfully the only casualty of today is some wet clothing."
