Town Meeting Approves Municipal Building Maintenance

Residents gathered at North Reading High School on Monday evening for October Town Meeting. Residents voted to approve transferring $50,000 from free cash to make improvements to Town Hall, the Senior Center, fire department and library.

Selectmen Steve O'Leary addressed Town Meeting and asked residents to vote to approve the transfer of $50,000 from free cash to "construct, reconstruct or make improvements to Town Hall and other municipal buildings."

He explained that the $50,000 would fund several projects including replacing flooring in Town Hall, primarily in the administrative wing ($15,400); replacing third meeting house flooring ($9500); replacing kitchen flooring in the fire department ($3500); replacing doors, doorknobs and locks in town hall for security reasons ($7,000); and replacing flooring in the library ($14,600).

Town Meeting voted unanimously to transfer the money from free cash for the projects.
