Family Proposes Housing For Downtown Peabody Factory Building
The Flomp family wants to convert an old chemical factory into 48 apartments or condominiums.

PEABODY, MA -- The Flomp family wants to convert the chemical factory they own at the corner of Howley and Walnut Streets in Peabody into 48 apartments or condominiums. City Council is scheduled to discuss a proposal to rezone the property to a business central district from a general business district, which would allow the project to move forward with a special permit. In the late 1990, a proposal to build apartments was turned back by neighborhood opposition.
According to the Salem News, which first reported this story, the Flomp family has owned the 50,000-square-foot building for several years but have never been able to fully fill it with commercial tenants. "There is a market there, there are people that want to buy," Jack Keilty, an attorney who represents the Flomp family, told the newspaper.
