Peabody Unemployment Up From Last Year

Peabody unemployment went up by almost a full percent from last year.

The Massachusetts Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development recently released their June unemployment numbers for counties and towns throughout the state, including Peabody. 

Peabody saw an increase in unemployment from June 2012 to June of this year. 

Unemployment rose in Peabody from 6.4 percent in June of 2012 to 7.2 percent this past June. Unemployment was stagnant from May to June of this year. 

As of June, there were 2,028 Peabody residents without jobs, out of the 28,340 total labor force in Peabody. The labor force in Peabody, which is the total number of employable individuals, went up from 28,141 in June of 2012 to 28,340 this June. 

Statewide, unemployment was up in June as well as year-to-date. June unemployment throughout the state rose by 0.7 of a percent to 7.4 percent this past June. Statewide unemployment over the year jumped up by 0.5 percent to 6.9 percent.
