Alzheimer's Caregivers Receive Care Packages In Quincy

Standish Village and Compass on the Bay Memory Care assisted living communities donated care packages to Alzheimer's caregivers.

QUINCY, MA — Each month, the Quincy Council on Aging hosts Alzheimer's Caregiver Support for those caring for loved ones with Alzheimer's or memory impairments. The event is an opportunity to share personal stories and get advice from others who understand what they are going through. At the October event, two local senior communities — Compass on the Bay and Standish Village Assisted Living — partnered to bring education and advice to those in attendance. Each attendee also received a care package filled with treats, including brain-boosting spices, dark chocolate, skin moisturizer and more.

Compass on the Bay Executive Director Jenna Petrenko and Standish Village Executive Director Julie Platz discussed stress, its impact on the body, how to cope with stress related to caregiving, tips for brain-healthy cooking, and benefits of oils and massages.

"The members of the Alzheimer's Support Group were very appreciative of the 'care package' they received and the helpful hints given by both Jen and Julie," said Marge Donaher, outreach coordinator at the Quincy Council on Aging. "It's always good to hear the new things that may help their loved one."
