Local Breast Cancer Organization Receives Support from Central Rock Gym
Massachusetts Breast Cancer Coalition (MBCC), the state’s leading breast cancer organization dedicated to prevention, will be hosting their inaugural Run for Prevention event in Hingham on March 30th. Proceeds from the event benefit MBCC’s community education programs. MBCC attributes the success of its events to the support received from local organizations and businesses through sponsorships and volunteerism. Central Rock Gym of Randolph will be supporting MBCC’s event at Bare Cove Park in Hingham.
“The fight against cancer is an ongoing battle; it’s an illness that affects families, friends, and communities everywhere. Central Rock Gym (CRG) Randolph’s community is proud to be in support of Run for Prevention,” says Stephanie Ferrari, General Manager. “Many here at CRG Randolph have been touched by a cancer diagnosis in their family.
Ferrari’s aunt, Valerie, suffered from breast cancer in 2010. This put an enormous stress on her family as they watched their beloved aunt battle for her life. The women in Ferrari’s family also find themselves being more cautious, as now they are at greater risk for breast cancer. While supporting Valerie during treatment, the whole family dedicated themselves to look into the prevention of cancer, which MBCC focuses on.
One of CRG Randolph’s members, Cody, was also affected by a loved one battling breast cancer. Cody’s grandmother, Marion, who is 90 years old, has been diagnosed with breast cancer twice in her life. Marion has kept her determination and not allowed the illness to weigh on her. This strength has motivated Cody to embrace every challenge just as he has seen Marion embrace her own.
Central Rock Gym Randolph supports breast cancer prevention as a sponsor of Run for Prevention. “We are always looking for ways to give back to the community, and are happy to support the Run for Prevention,” says Ferrari. “Please considering donating to or joining the CRG Randolph’s Team for Cancer Prevention.”
“We are very fortunate to have passionate people, like the staff and members of Central Rock Gym, who care about our programs and mission,” says MBCC's Executive Director Cheryl Osimo. “Their compassion and generosity allow MBCC to continue to work towards our unique goal of breast cancer prevention.”
The Run for Prevention event will take place on Saturday, March 30, 2019, at Bare Cove Park in Hingham, MA, located along the banks of the Weymouth Back River and features USATF certified 5- or 10-mile runs, 2-mile fitness walk, and 1-mile kids fun run. Registration is $40 for the 10-mile run, $35 for the 5-mile run, $25 for walk participants and $10 for the kids fun run. Prizes will be awarded to the top finishers in each competitive event.
