Costumes Needed for Annual Halloween Drive

Interfaith Social Services of Quincy welcomes new and gently used Halloween costumes.

From Interfaith Social Service: Interfaith Social Services is in need of new and gently used Halloween costumes, or monetary donations to purchase new costumes, for their annual Halloween Drive. Every October the organization distributes costumes to hundreds of children served through their food pantry.

Interfaith Social Services operates one of the largest emergency food programs in Greater Boston; in addition to their New Directions mental health counseling center and HomeSafe initiative. Interfaith’s programs are a safety net for thousands of children and families from the South Shore who are struggling to make ends meet. Many of these families do not have the means to walk into a store and purchase costumes for their children. Through the Halloween Drive, these children will be given costumes so that they may have the opportunity to enjoy Halloween festivities.

“This year our organization is celebrating our seventieth anniversary,” said Interfaith’s executive director Rick Doane. “Back in 1947 Quincy and South Shore residents started working together to help local children in need. Distributing these Halloween costumes is one of the many ways that we are carrying that mission forward, bringing joy to children who are living in difficult situations. It is amazing to see the happiness on these kids’ faces when they find that perfect costume.”

Larger-sized children’s costumes (for 10-12 year olds) are especially needed. “We run out of those larger sizes every year,” said Doane. “We need everyone’s help to make sure that doesn’t happen again. We are so grateful for all of the amazing local residents who embrace this program, donate and make it possible.”
