Dredging Company In Quincy Fined By EPA For Illegal Dumping

Cashman Dredging & Marine Contracting Co. was fined for illegally dumping dredged materials at multiple locations.

QUINCY, MA- Cashman Dredging & Marine Contracting Co. was docked $185,000 by the EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) for violating the Ocean Dumping Act. The EPA's statement regarding these violations explained that the law was broken four times while transporting materials from New Bedford Harbor to the Rhode Island Sound Disposal Site.

EPA New England Acting Regional Administrator Deborah Szaro explained, “Proper disposal of dredged material plays a vital part in protecting our oceans,”. The violations were electronically tracked by specific devices on board the ships. During the investigation, Cashman Dredging was compliant and wanted to help resolve the issues.
