Family Of Woman Killed At Quincy T Station Sets Up GoFundMe

Family of Sanyi Harris, of Brockton, said it is "deeply shocked, saddened and struggling to come to terms with Sanyi's untimely passing."

QUINCY, MA — The family of a Brockton woman killed Saturday when an MBTA bus struck her in the parking lot of the Quincy Center station has set up a GoFundMe page to help assist her two children. Reports said Sanyi Harris, who was an MBTA employee, was pinned under the bus and had to be freed by emergency personnel.

"The Harris family wants to thank everyone for their thoughts and prayers, and especially the Boston Carmen's Union Local 589 A.T.U. and MBTA, during this horrific tragedy for our family," the statement said. "We are deeply shocked, saddened and struggling to come to terms with Sanyi's untimely passing. We understand that the MBTA has initiated an investigation and we shall await their findings. This is a time of mourning and healing for our family and we ask that the public respect our privacy. We have no other statements to make at this time."

That bus that hit Harris also crashed into a car around noon on Saturday. Both the bus and car were later towed from the scene. The MBTA has not announced any charges against the driver of the bus.

The GoFundMe page said Harris — known by many as "Keni" — worked for the MBTA for almost 10 years. She had twin children named Semi and Semiya, who turned 21 years old seven days before Harris was killed.

"Keni suffered from medical issues but she never once made or used her illness as an excuse to not properly provide for her family," the family wrote on the GoFundMe page. "Keni pushed through the limitations that others gave her. Keni made a pledge to herself to provide (for) and supply her children with a stable and loving life. Keni always showed up to work with the motivation and drive to do the job assigned to her. The compassion she had to provide for her family gave her the strength to push forward and ensure her children and her loved ones, never went without."
