Lanes Closing On I-93 In Quincy For Bridge Construction
Between 9 p.m., and 5 a.m., there will be lane closures to allow crews to safely repair the Robertson Street Bridge.
QUINCY, MA — Starting Sunday, overnight construction will close lanes on Interstate 93 in both directions, the Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) announced. Between 9 p.m., and 5 a.m., there will be lane closures to allow crews and contractors to safely and effectively demolish concrete as part of the Robertson Street Bridge replacement project. The closures are expected to last until the morning of April 12.
In addition to the lane closures, there will be nightly short-term rolling roadblocks on I-93 and closures of Roberston Street to allow crews to safely remove bridge beams. But these parts of the project aren't expected to start until later in the Spring.
The existing bridge was constructed in 1958 and is currently safe for travel, but it's in poor condition, MassDOT said in a statement. The full scope of work for this project includes removing and replacing the existing bridge structure, installing a bicycle lane, improving sidewalks and wheelchair ramps, and resurfacing the roadway.
