Quincy Big Y Is Closing: Report

The Quincy Big Y is closing just three years after opening.

QUINCY, MA — Big Y will close its North Quincy location next week after failing to negotiate a longer lease for the property. The family-owned supermarket chain opened in the city just three years ago. CFO Bill Mahoney told the Patriot Ledger the company didn't plan to leave Quincy so soon and is exploring other locations in the city and nearby towns.

According to a company spokesperson, all store employees will be offered similar positions in another store or a bonus if they don't want to relocate. The closest Big Y stores to Quincy are in Norwell and Norwood.

The Quincy Big Y, located at 475 Hancock St., closes its doors Aug. 28.
