Quincy Police Hold Memorial Service For K-9 Major
Quincy police on Wednesday held a memorial service for Major, the patrol and explosive-detection German Shepherd who died on Saturday.

QUINCY, MA — The Quincy Police Department said a final goodbye Wednesday to Major, the German Shepherd patrol and explosive device-detecting K-9 who died Saturday. Major served the residents of Quincy and protected the Boston Marathon route during his five years in service.
Major, who was partnered with Quincy Officer Ken Wood, suffered a medical emergency at Veterans Stadium on Saturday. He was rushed to South Shore Animal Hospital with the help of traffic detail from Weymouth and Braintree police, but was unable to be saved.
Major was one of 12 police dogs in the Quincy K-9 unit.

A memorial service was held this afternoon for Canine Major, who passed away from a medical incident on Saturday, December 7th. Major, a German shepherd, was six years old and admirably served the citizens of Quincy & the Commonwealth of Mass for the past 5 years. pic.twitter.com/6dkKXzsIRw
