Quincy Public Schools Issue Guidelines For Flu Sufferers

Quincy Superintendent Richard DiCristofaro sent a letter to parents telling them, in part, to keep students home if they are sick.

QUINCY, MA — As New England hits the heart of flu season — and worries mount over the international spread of the coronavirus out of China — Quincy Superintendent of Schools Dr. Richard DiCristofaro sent a letter to parents on Tuesday with guidelines of how to lessen the chance of getting infected and what to do if your child is sick.

As of Tuesday morning, there were five confirmed coronavirus cases confirmed in the United States, including two in New Hampshire involving people who traveled from China.

Quincy Public Schools advise students to get a flu vaccination and to keep students home if they are not feeling well.

"Flu vaccination is always the best way to prevent flu and its potentially serious complications," DiCristofaro wrote. "It is not too late to be vaccinated!"

Other recommendations include: staying home from work, school and errands when sick, avoiding close contact with others while you are sick, covering your cough or sneeze and disposing of the tissue right away, washing your hands with soap and water often, and use alcohol-based cleaner if soap is not available, and avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth.

Quincy Public Schools recommend contacting the school nurse with any other questions about whether a student should be in school.
