Quincy Students Score Higher Than Average On MCAS Test

In all grades and subjects, Quincy School District students scored better on MCAS test this year than the state average.

QUINCY, MA — Massachusetts has released results of the latest MCAS test, which is used by the state as a guide to measure students' academic performance. In the Quincy School District, students at all tested grade levels and in all subjects tested higher than the state average.

In math, 54 percent of Quincy students in grades three through eight met or exceeded expectations, compared to the state average of 49 percent for those grade levels. For 10th-graders, 59 percent at least met expectations — the same as the state average, according to the data released Tuesday.

In English, too, students in the Quincy School District scored better than the state average. In grades three through eight, 60 percent of Quincy students met or exceeded expectations, compared to the state average of 52 percent. And 62 percent of Quincy's 10th-graders met or exceeded math expectations, compared to the state average of 61 percent.

In science, the same percentage of students in Quincy met or exceeded expectations as compared to the state average — 74 percent. When it comes to fifth- and eighth-grade students, 51 percent of Quincy's students at least met expectations, according to state's standards, as opposed to the state average of 48 percent.
