Road Reopens In Quincy After Day Of Water Main Break Closures

West Squantum Street will remain open through Christmas Day before closing once again for repaving work Thursday morning.

QUINCY, MA — West Squantum Street in Quincy is back open Tuesday after a day of detours, damage and lots and lots of water. The site of a water main break that closed the road for nearly 24 hours will remain open through Christmas Day before being closed once again for repaving Thursday morning.

The road remained closed through the overnight into the morning commute Tuesday morning before Quincy police reopened the road about 8:30 a.m. The road will be closed Thursday starting at 7:30 a.m. for repaving.

The break forced the closing of the road late Monday morning as water gushed from the ground near Fayette Street. West Squantum Street remained closed the rest of the day with drivers unable to exit Newport Avenue southbound at the West Squantum Bridge Monday night. Water service was disrupted to several homes in the area.
