QUINCY, MA- Stop & Shop announced their partnership with the Ocean Disclosure Project (ODP) to give customers more information regarding seafood sources store wide. Working with the ODP will allow for Stop & Shop to be more transparent with their customers about where their seafood comes from.

This partnership is meant to hold Quincy-based Stop & Shop accountable for their seafood policies and commitments, ensuring their food comes from reliable farms and fisheries. The president of Stop & Shop, Gordon Reid, explains, "As an East Coast retailer, fish is an important part of our business – as is how we source it.” Reid also explains how they felt it was a good time to implement more transparency with customers because Lent has started.

The ODP joins the Gulf of Maine Research Institute (GMRI), a non-profit organization who helps assess incoming seafood with Stop & Shop's seafood policy, as a tool to improve their business. Kyle Foley, senior program manager for GMRI says, "Joining the Ocean Disclosure Project is a strong demonstration of Stop & Shop’s commitment to transparency around their seafood and one more way to contribute to the global efforts to improve the sustainability of seafood.”

These organizations (ODP & GMRI) are able to supply traceability to each seafood source which Stop & Shop uses across their 400-plus stores in the northeast. Stop & Shop's efforts to give more insight to customers regarding their seafood products are proving to be a top priority by these partnerships.

Providing customers with the right information regarding their seafood, especially during this Lent season, is made possible from the ODP and Stop & Shop's new partnership. For more of this article, visit perishablenews.com
