Wollaston Station Expected To Reopen This Summer

QUINCY, MA — Wollaston Station is on schedule to reopen the station for Red Line service this summer, MBTA officials announced on Friday morning.

Construction closed Wollaston last year to make the station compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act. The $33 million project, which includes plans to build new elevators, escalators, paths, energy-efficient lights and more, is going well, according to MBTA deputy press secretary Lisa Battiston.

"Remaining construction activity centers around elevators and escalators, and then there’s some electrical, mechanical, and plumbing work to finish," Battiston said.

When Wollaston construction is complete, the entirety of the Red Line will be fully handicapped-accessible. Until then, the Red Line will continue to skip Wollaston Station and use shuttle buses between North Quincy, Wollaston and Quincy Center Stations.
