The Hitching Post To Close After 21 Years
With no new owner on the horizon, Leslie Leahy makes decision to retire and close Haven Street store.

With a subject line of "It's time to say good-bye" The Hitching Post's Leslie Leahy sent this email to her customers Saturday:
The new year is upon us with an air of new beginnings!
After 21 years, I am announcing my retirement from The Hitching Post, & the store will be closing in early 2019. I would have preferred that The Hitching Post continue with a new owner, but that does not appear to be possible.

Needless to say, this was not an easy decision, but the time is right to redirect to new opportunities.
The HP staff & I are very proud of The Hitching Post's legacy as a strong supporter of local artisans & the Reading community. We have worked very hard to provide unique products & greeting cards for your gift-giving needs in a welcoming environment.

As a founding member of Shop the Block, involvement with the Reading Fall Street Faire & Downtown Trick or Treat, member of the Reading North Reading Chamber, supporter of local organizations like Mission of Deeds, REF, Reading Elder Services, the Reading Food Pantry & many more, The Hitching Post has been actively involved in the Reading community for many years. In addition, The Hitching Post has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for the fight against cancer through the Friends of Mel Foundation & Diane's Pen Pals. None of this could have been possible without your support, & for that we are grateful.
We will begin the new year with a storewide clearance starting on January 2nd. All merchandise will be on sale at 20% off. Shop early for the best selection - many of our items are one-of-a-kind - when they're gone, they're gone!

- Bonus Bucks do not apply to sale merchandise
- Gift cards & credits will be honored on merchandise purchases until 1/31/19 while merchandise lasts

- Display purchases (furniture, fixtures, etc) are CASH ONLY
- ALL SALES FINAL
While I am sad to leave this chapter behind, I am also excited to see what the new year brings!
Wishing you all a happy, healthy 2019!
