Reading's Elvira Carlson Passes Away

Longtime town resident grew up in Malden.

Elvira (Huszti) Carlson, age 89 of Reading, passed away on Sunday July 28th. She was born to the late Meny Lert Huszti of Hungary and Helen Gecse of New Jersey on December 3, 1929.

Elvira attended Malden High School before marrying the love her life George W. Carlson Jr. The couple lived in Everett and Reading where they raised 3 children, Deborah, Lesley and George.

Elvira is survived by her 3 children, Deborah Welch of South Carolina, Lesley Lutz of New Hampshire and George W. Carlson III of Massachusetts; 10 grandchildren, Kelly, Kevin, Sarah, Katherine, Danielle, Samantha, Joshua, Jennifer, Deirdre and Melissa; 10 great grandchildren and other loving relatives and close friends including the Voigt family.

A loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, homemaker, waitress and executive secretary. She was a remarkable cook known for her mac & cheese, spaghetti sauce and stuffed cabbage. Elvira touched many lives during her long, beautiful life and will be missed by many.

A Memorial Service will be held at the Douglass, Edgerley and Bessom Funeral Home 25 Sanborn St. (corner of Woburn St.) Reading on Saturday, August 3 at 11 am. Burial is private. There are no visiting hours. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Church of the Good Shepherd 95 Woburn St. Reading, MA 01867.
