Mayor Kimberly Driscoll has proclaimed September 28th as Autumn Arbor Day in Salem as part of the city’s renewed interest in the trees that line our streets and stand in our yards. All of them clean our air, cool our neighborhoods and provide comfort and restful quiet to our environment. Please take time to reflect on the important benefits of the trees around us.
If you are able to plant a tree on your property this fall or next spring, then a useful idea has been planted by this day of commemoration.
As part of the Tree City USA program, a tree will be planted in Greenlawn Cemetery, 57 Orne Street at 10 AM on Saturday where members of the new Salem Tree Commission will gather to launch the effort to enhance our urban canopy. The Friends of Greenlawn Cemetery are hosting this event and offer music and tours of our city’s beautiful arboretum to participants. We hope you can come to enjoy the beauty of a landscape filled with stately tall trees.
