City Suspends Popular Salem Restaurant's Liquor License

A bouncer injured a 21-year-old customer while removing him from the Village Tavern on Nov. 4.

SALEM, MA -- A bouncer's ejection of a 21-year-old patron just before last call on Nov. 4 has resulted in a five-day liquor license suspension for the Village Tavern on Essex Street. The Salem Licensing board said three days of the suspension need to be served within the next two months, while the remaining two days will be held in abeyance and waived if there are no other infractions at the Village Tavern in that time frame.

According to the Salem News, which first reported this story, a video shown at Monday night's licensing board hearing showed a crowd of staff members removing the man from the bar. At one point he can be seen being pushed into the brim of the East India Square fountain.
