Criminal Charges in Accident That Killed Endicott Student

A 20-year-old Vermont man will be arraigned on motor vehicle homicide charges in Salem District Court on Tuesday.

Beverly, MA - A 20-year-old Vermont man is scheduled to be arraigned on motor vehicle homicide in Salem District Court on Tuesday in connection with a crash over the weekend that killed an Endicott College sophomore.

Joseph Castano, 20, of Williston, VT is expected to be arraigned today on charges of motor vehicle homicide by operating under the influence of liquor and by negligent operation. He is also charged with minor in possession of alcohol.

Craig Sampson of Williston, VT was killed when the car he was a passenger in struck a utility pole outside Birchmont Hall at Endicott College early Sunday morning.The 19-year-old was a sophomore at the college.

After the accident, law enforcement officials stated that speed and alcohol were factors in the crash. Castano, who officials said was driving, was also taken to the hospital with serious injuries.
