Emergency Repairs Slated For Beverly/Salem Drawbridge

The state Department of Transportation said the moveable span of the Kernwood Avenue Drawbridge will be closed for repairs on Tuesday.

SALEM, MA —A portion of the Kernwood Avenue Drawbridge will be closed on Tuesday for what the state Department of Transportation described as "emergency repairs."

The movable span on the Danvers River bridge will be out of service from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. MassDOT said one lane will be open to vehicles on the bridge and that police details will be used to alternate traffic.

"The closure of this span will allow for emergency repairs to occur," the MassDOT said. "Additionally, marine vessels that are able to pass under the bridge in the closed position may continue to do so.

"The Beverly and Salem Harbormasters will direct marine vessels."

Drivers are advised to reduce speed and use caution.

Appropriate signage, law enforcement details, and advanced message boards will be in place to guide drivers through the work area.
