Essex Heritage Resumes Boat Tours Of Salem Sound For 2021

SALEM, MA — Essex Heritage boat tours through Salem Sound are back for 2021 starting next week.

The tours to Bakers Island Light Station and Misery Island run through Labor Day.

"We are excited to offer these boat tours, which are the perfect way to experience the beauty and tranquility of the Salem Harbor Islands," Essex Heritage CEO, Annie Harris said. "After a challenging 2020 season, it feels great to be out on the water once again."

There are three regular tours offered on weekends.

The 30-minute tour to Bakers Island Light Station includes a trip past the rugged coastline, harbor islands and give lighthouses to Bakers Island. The light station is a 10-acre property that has been in operation for nearly 250 years.

The site includes an 1820 light tower, two keeper's houses and historic trails. The 2.5-tour includes the chance to explore the natural landscape, learn about the history of the light station and relax on the island. Tickets can be found here.

In addition to specialty tours, Essex Heritage offers regular tours on weekends. These include:

The Great Misery Island tour includes narration of the rich history of the hard and how the Misery Islands acquired their name. The tour includes a 90-minute stop with the chance to explore open meadows, rocky shorelines and hidden coves on the island. Tickets can be found here.

The Island Hops Tours is a 21-plus tour of the Salem Sound that includes a complimentary beer or cocktail and cruise around the islands, including a stop at Great Misery Island. The tour is two hours round trip with a discount for members. Tickets can be found here.

All boat tours depart from the Salem Ferry Dock at 10 Blaney Street, Salem. Passengers must be able to navigate rough terrain. More information is available here.
