SALEM, MA — Sun, sand and a shot of vaccine.

That's what city and health officials hope will make for a fun and potentially life-saving trip to the beach for those who have been procrastinating on their vaccinating this weekend.

On Friday and Saturday, Salem and Curative will have a mobile unit at Salem Willows Park where anyone eligible who has yet to receive a coronavirus vaccine can get one. The unit will be there from 4 to 6 p.m. on Friday and 2 to 4 p.m. on Saturday.

Both the Pfizer and J&J vaccine will be available. Second appointments will be set up for those who choose the Pfizer vaccine.

The city said volunteers with the Medical Reserve Corps and the North Shore Coalition for a Safe Summer will be in the park to educate and answer any questions about the vaccine. They will then direct those interested to the mobile vaccination team.

The Coalition of 10 North Shore communities and their boards of health said last week that over the next several weeks it will focus its outreach efforts on the student population — currently 12 years old and older for the Pfizer vaccine — eligible for the vaccine, as well as populations that have been disproportionately impacted during the pandemic, and the vaccine-hesitant.

For Salem residents, the Salem Skipper is providing free rides to Salem Willows on both Friday and Saturday.
