High Surf Warning Issued For Essex County, Cape, Islands, RI

The National Weather Service issued a warning for dangerous swimming conditions through Tuesday night due to distant Hurricane Paulette.

SALEM, MA — Inexperienced swimmers are urged to stay out of the waters along the coast of Essex County, Cape Cod, the Islands and Rhode Island due to predicated dangerous surf conditions from Hurricane Paulette.

The warning issued on Monday runs through Tuesday night at 8 p.m. and calls for "large, breaking waves of 4 to 10 feet" expected in the surf zone.

The NWS said that the conditions will cause dangerous swimming and surfing conditions and localized beach erosion.

"Inexperienced swimmers should remain out of the water due to dangerous surf conditions," the NWS said in its alert.

The NWS is also warning against fishing and wave watching on jetties.

Hurricane Paulette brought winds of 90 miles per hour to Bermuda over night and will affect the New England coast's surf despite a forecast path to head well out to sea after passing south of Nova Scotia Tuesday night.
