SALEM, MA — Independence Day has arrived, and although Southern New England's weather is far from summery, many are still celebrating with backyard barbecues, town celebrations and fireworks displays. Because July 4 falls on a Sunday this year, most businesses and services are observing the holiday the following day, on Monday.

That's good news, because the weather is supposed to be a bit dreary this weekend. But not Monday.

  • Mail: Post offices closed; express delivery only
  • MBTA: Sunday/Holiday schedule
  • Trash Collection: Delayed by one day
