Keep That Mask On In Salem City Buildings 'Until Further Notice'

SALEM, MA — The expiration of the indoor state and city mask mandates for businesses will not extend to city-owned buildings in Salem.

The morning after the Salem Board of Health voted 4-1 to let the indoor mask mandate expire for businesses on Saturday in line with state restrictions that expire the same day, Salem Mayor Kim Driscoll said masks will remain on in city buildings "for the continued protection of the public and city employees."

The policy will be in place "until further notice."

The mandatory mask extension applies to both the public and employees.

City buildings affected include: City Hall, City Hall Annex, Mayor Jean Levesque Community Life Center, Salem Public Library, Salem Police headquarters, Salem Fire headquarters and stations, the Museum Place and South Harbor garages, Old Town Hall and buildings at all city parks.

The city said masks are only required indoors.

The city also said the Salem Public Library will reopen on June 1.

The library will open Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., and Friday and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The library is closed on Sundays.

The Jean Levesque Community Life Center will "begin transitioning programs to its indoor spaces gradually over the coming weeks."
