Massachusetts Gas Prices Creep Up

While gas prices in the state rose to $2.52 per gallon last week, they are down from where they were a year ago, AAA said.

AAA said Massachusetts drivers could see prices at the pump continue to rise ahead of next week's holiday.

SALEM, MA — The average price of a gallon of self-serve, regular unleaded gas was $2.52 according to the AAA gas-price survey released Monday. That was up two cents from a week ago, but down from $2.59 in the year-ago period. Massachusetts gas prices were also below the national average of $2.55 per gallon in the Dec. 16 survey.

"Prices generally are within a few cents of where they’ve been throughout the fall," said Mary Maguire, Director, Public and Legislative Affairs. "In the lead up to the holidays we may see a small spike in demand, but not enough to impact gas prices substantially."

The range in prices in the latest AAA survey for unleaded regular is 80 cents, from a low of $2.29 to a high of $3.09.
