Most Have Power Restored As North Shore Cleanup Continues

But National Grid still says some Massachusetts residents will be without power until late Saturday night after the bomb cyclone.

SALEM, MA — The cleanup and power outages on the North Shore continued Friday. National Grid made significant progress in repairing outages in the overnight hours, cutting the total number in Massachusetts to 37,744 at 9:45 a.m. on Friday from 77,256 at 6 p.m. on Thursday. The utility, however, still expects it will be late Saturday night before it restores power to all of its customers.

National Grid offered more detail on its estimates for when power would be restored, saying the estimates posted on its outage map are the best projection of when 95 percent of customers in an area will have power restored under the worst-case scenario.

Clean-Up Efforts And Other Resources

The city of Salem said Friday that it would extend hours at its transfer station for yard waste drop-off as residents cleaned up from the storm. The facility on Swampscott Road will be open Saturday and Sunday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. The city's next curbside yard waste collection is on Oct. 21.

Salem also started accepting donation for a fund to replace trees that were damaged in the storm. More information on the fund is available on the city's Website.

Danvers is also opening up the yard waste area at its transfer station for residents through Saturday. Curbside yard waste pickup is scheduled for next week.

Power Outage Update (as of 7 p.m. Friday)

National Grid's estimates are the best projection of when 95 percent of customers in an area will have power restored under the worst-case scenario, the utility said.

On the North Shore, National Grid still had outages at 7 p.m. Friday in:

  • Beverly, where 1,396 of the utility's 19,245 were without power.
  • Hamilton (455 of 3,134 customer).
  • Salem (616 of 21,234 customers).
  • Swampscott (164 of 6,288 customers).
  • Wenham (273 of 1,520 customers).

Peabody Municipal Light had restored power to all of its customers by noon on Friday.

Danvers offered a detailed update of its restoration efforts on Facebook around 9:30 a.m. on Friday, but had not provided any additional updates as of 7 p.m. on Friday.:

At 11 p.m. Thursday, Marblehead Municipal Light still had 450 customers without power. That was down from 950 when the day started. The utility had not provided any additional updates as of 7 p.m. on Friday.
