Parakeet Pair Can Be Had For A Song In Salem
The Northeast Animal Shelter needs a home for Tiki and Mango after their owner was hospitalized and will not be able to take care of them.

SALEM, MA — The Northeast Animal Shelter has been adopting dogs, cats and various other animals out of its Salem location for more than four decades as one of New England's largest, non-profit, no-kill animal shelters.
For what is believed to be the first time this week, the shelter is looking for a forever home for a pair of parakeets.
The shelter brought in Tiki and Mango through their community outreach program and help from elder services and a local animal control officer. The shelter said the birds' owner suddenly required hospitalization and there was no one to care for the parakeet pair.

The buddy birds of a feather were to be fostered until the owner could once again take them. But the shelter said the owner's long-term medical care "makes a reunion impossible."
So this adorable duo needs a place to live together.

The shelter is currently caring for the birds and they are up for adoption.
"This pretty duo is very bonded to each other, but still get pretty nervous around human friends," the shelter notes. "Although nervous, they will fill your home with beautiful melodies all day long!
"While Tiki and Mango are beautiful, they are not yet socialized with people and will need hand training."
Those interested in the melody twins should email adoptions@neas.org with "parakeets" in the subject line.
The care and adoption of the birds is part of the new affiliation between the Northeast Animal Shelter and the Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals after their formal collaboration was established last month.
"The MSPCA and NEAS have long shared the same vision for animal protection, and have been collaborating for years, but this new relationship marks a major step toward our collective goal of helping every animal that we can," the shelter said, "which means ensuring pets remain safe and healthy in their homes whenever possible.
"Under new leadership, Northeast Animal Shelter will be placing a larger emphasis on community outreach efforts and deepening our commitment to keep pets and families together — regardless of the species in need — by providing resources and programs in the neighborhoods in which we serve."
