SALEM, MA — Salem opened the cooling center at the Mayor Jean Levesque Community Life Center a second straight day because of the extreme heat bearing down on the North Shore.

The National Weather Service once again predicted the heat index could reach the mid-90s on Tuesday.

The cooling center on Bridge Street will be open until at least 4 p.m. to help any residents in need of a little air conditioning cool down a bit.
