Young people from the Salem Youth Commission recently attended Kick Butts Day: Youth Day of Action, a virtual event hosted by The 84 Movement, a statewide movement of youth fighting against the tobacco and vaping industries in Massachusetts. As part of the event, the Salem youth met with Senator Joan Lovely and Representative Paul Tucker and discussed issues that affected them and their classmates the most over the past year during the COVID-19 pandemic. They expressed concerns about mental health and how it impacts tobacco use; they also discussed access to internet services and the cost of technology.
