SALEM, MA —William Carter Jr., who has served as principal at South Shore Christian Academy and Bridge Boston Charter School, is coming to Salem as the new leader of the Salem Academy Charter Lower School.

The school said Carter will take over for outgoing Lower School Principal Matthew Chuchul, who said in February he will leave at the end of the school year to return to New York for family reasons.

"I am honored to be the newly appointed middle school principal at Salem Academy Charter School and am excited to be joining the SACS family," Carter said. "During the interview process, it was clear that there is strong alignment between the mission and core values of SACS and those I hold dear as an educator.

"I am delighted to be joining a team of passionate and committed educators who all want the same outcomes —lifelong successes for all of our students. I look forward to formally
joining the team in July and getting to know all of the members of the school community over the course of the next school year and beyond."

More than 50 candidates applied for this position, from which three candidates emerged as finalists and participated in on-campus interviews. As part of the selection process, Salem Academy staff, students and community members were invited to meet with the candidates for meet-and-greet sessions where they could ask questions and generate feedback for the search
committee.
