Thousands of people are expected to congregate in downtown Salem for the final weekend before Halloween.
SALEM, MA — More than 500,000 people visit Salem each October, according to Destination Salem, and a big chunk of those visitors hit the Witch City on the last weekend before the Halloween holiday. With thousands of people expected downtown Saturday and Sunday, the city will be closing several streets to accommodate the crowds.
Beginning at 11 a.m. Saturday, Washington Street from Bridge Street to New Derby Street will be closed. Front Street, Church Street, Brown Street, and Essex Street at North Street will be closed to through traffic, as well as Howard, Mall, Oliver, and Williams Streets. If crowds are bigger than expected, Salem police may decide to close additional streets.
