Salem Cancels School, Declares Snow Emergency For Tuesday
The storm will be the first real test of Salem's new parking policy, which prohibits parking in school lots.

SALEM, MA — Schools will be close in Salem on Tuesday, Dec. 3. Salem will enact a snow emergency at 11 p.m. Monday, ahead of what is forecast to be the second wave of the season's first winter storm. The storm will also be the first real test for the city's new snow emergency parking rules, which prohibit parking in most school parking lots.
Salem officials also said trash will not be collected Tuesday as storm cleanup continues. Trash pickup will be delayed one day for the remainder of the week (Tuesday on Wednesday, Wednesday on Thursday, etc.).
The city posted a complete list of approved snow parking locations, as well as any applicable rates or other regulations for those locations. In addition to City snow parking locations, a limited number of parking spaces are available for residents at Shetland Office Park, Footprint Power, and Salem State. You must have a permit to park in these three lots. Permits for Shetland and Footprint can be obtained at the City Parking Garage office on New Liberty Street. Permits for Salem State’s lot can be obtained at the Salem State police office.
