Salem Rescinds Snow Emergency Saturday Night
Salem declared a 9 p.m. snow emergency for the city and then took it back.

SALEM, MA — A snow emergency was declared for Salem on Saturday night.
And then it wasn't.
"Sorry for the inconvenience folks," Salem Mayor Kim Driscoll posted. "The weather pattern shifted several times and snow was on and off.

"We have cancelled the snow emergency. Again, apologies for the fire drill for those of you who moved your vehicle already. I've asked garage officials to waive snow parking fees."
The parking ban was to go into effect at 9 p.m. for the city and 11 p.m. for the downtown district.

While forecasts early in the day called for snow totals up to 18 inches in Central Massachusetts, totals are likely to come in significantly less than that with the highest snow totals in the state about 7 inches as of 6 p.m.
