Salem High School Senior Dies Unexpectedly

An 18-year-old senior at Salem High School passed away suddenly Monday, according to this announcement posted on the school's website. 

"Kyle Hairston, a Salem High School senior, passed away unexpectedly on Monday.  The high school has counselors and support services available for any students or staff that need them.  Our thoughts and prayers are with Kyle's family and friends during this difficult time," the announcement read.

Hairston was reportedly transported to Salem Hospital Monday afternoon after being taken from a friend's house on Bridge Street in a state of "medical distress," The Salem News is reporting.

Police are investigating the death.
