2021 Memorial Day Program In Salem

The public is asked to view the ceremony involving city officials and Salem High students virtually live on Facebook or later on YouTube.

SALEM, MA — Salem will hold a Memorial Day ceremony on Monday with the public asked to watch the ceremony virtually.

Salem will hold the ceremony at the Broad Street Cemetery starting at noon. The city asks that only event speakers attend in person with residents invited to watch it here. It will later be available here.

Commander Alex Tilkens will provide the opening remarks followed by Salem High Band Drum Major Miles Payson saying the Pledge of Allegiance. The Salem High School band will then play the national anthem.

Salem High National Honor Society member Christin Napierkowski will recite the "Gettysburg Address" with Mayor Kim Driscoll. State Sen. Joan Lovely and American Legion Post 5 member Dexter Bishop to speak next.

There will then be a vacant chair ceremony from the Sons of Union Veterans, and Bishop and Driscoll will lead a plaque unveiling.

Salem High National Honor Society member Deya Arnold will present "In Flanders Field" and the Salem High band will play "Taps" before a closing prayer.

The Salem High bank will end the ceremony with the playing of "God Bless America."
