Salem Police Investigating Rash of Vehicle Break-Ins
The following information was submitted by the Salem Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.
The following is an excerpt from the Salem Police Department's log:Â
Wednesday, April 23:Â
- At 1:07 a.m., police responded to a past vehicle break-in on Cleveland Street.
- At 4:27 a.m., police responded to a past vehicle break-in on Chase Street.
- At 6:08 a.m., vehicles were towed on Derby Street for street sweeping.
- At 7:21 a.m., police made an arrest on Margin Street. Christopher G. Mulcahy, 35, of 75 Silsbee St., Lynn, was arrested for reportedly having an outstanding warrant.
- At 7:21 a.m., police responded to a past vehicle break-in near the intersection of Leavitt and Prince streets.
- At 8:29 a.m., police responded to a past vehicle break-in on Leavitt Street.
- At 9:16 a.m., police responded to a loose dog complaint on Jefferson Avenue.
- At 10:14 a.m., police responded to a past domestic dispute on Proctor Street.
- At 11:00 a.m., police responded to a report of a stolen motor vehicle on Colby Street.
- At 2:04 p.m., police made an arrest on Margin Street. Samantha L. Nichols, 26, of 22 Proctor St., Salem, was arrested on two counts of domestic assault and battery with a dangerous weapon (scissors).
- At 3:43 p.m., a gun and ammunition were turned over to police for safe-keeping.
- At 4:41 p.m., police responded to a shoplifting incident at the Walgreen's on New Derby Street. Jennifer A. Bertino, 40, of 8 Wyman St., Salem, was arrested on charges of shoplifting merchandise by concealment and providing a false name to police.
- At 5:40 p.m., police responded to a shoplifting incident on New Derby Street. Frank J. Martorano, 19, of 117 Lafayette St., Salem, was arrested on a charge of shoplifting merchandise by concealment.
- At 5:41 p.m., police responded to a noise complaint on Mason Street.
- At 6:41 p.m., an officer disposed of a hypodermic needle on Bridge Street.
- At 9:58 p.m., police responded to a domestic dispute on Osborne Street.
Thursday, April 24:Â
- At 5:06 a.m., vehicles were towed for street sweeping on Boston Street.
- At 6:27 a.m., an officer disposed of a hypodermic needle discovered on Church Street.
- At 10:45 a.m., police responded to a noise complaint on Grove Street.
- At 11:45 a.m., police and fire units responded to a fire in the woods on Cain Road.
- At 12:41 p.m., police made an arrest on Highland Avenue. Siobhan C. White, 30, of 44 Mercer St., South Boston, was arrested for reportedly having an outstanding warrant.
- At 1:07 p.m., police responded to a report of a person sleeping near a building on Norman Street.
- At 1:42 p.m., police responded to a report of a large tree limb hanging over a sidewalk on Lafayette Street.
- At 2:03 p.m., police responded to a report of shoplifting on New Derby Street. Kiara M. Ravelo, 21, of 15 Palmer St., Salem, was arrested on a charge of shoplifting merchandise by concealment.
- At 3:10 p.m., police conducted a well-being check on Boston Street.
- At 4:11 p.m., police took a missing person report on Margin Street.
