Salem Snow Emergency Parking Ban Expires Thursday Night

Vehicles must be moved from non-garage parking emergency locations within six hours of the 7 p.m. ban expiration or may be towed.

SALEM, MA — Vehicles parked in non-garage snow emergency parking locations in Salem must be moved within six hours of the 7 p.m. expiration of the emergency on Thursday.

This includes the alternative on-street parking sites at Sargent Street, Fort Avenue, Collins Street, Szetela Lane, Beacon Avenue and Lathrop Street. Cares parked at Shetland must be moved within 30 of the ban's expiration.

Vehicles left after the time expires may be ticketed and towed. Those parked in garages will be charged at regular garage rates as of Thursday night.

"Crews have been out and working hard to clear roadways since early morning," Salem Mayor Kim Driscoll said. "Additional clean up and snow clearing efforts will continue tonight and tomorrow."

City ordinances require homeowners to remove snow from the sidewalks in front of their houses. With the snow emergency expiring at night, that removal must be done by noon on Friday.

Salem resident are asked to clear snow from sidewalks near their home or business after the storm. While the city clears sidewalks, it takes additional time, and having residents do it is helpful to school children, the elderly and the general public through not forcing them to walk in the street.

City removal of snow on sidewalks only beings when all streets are cleared.
