Despite increased vaccinations and rapidly decreasing virus case levels, Gov. Charlie Baker said in May that the state's "Stop the Spread" sites will remain open through at least September as a surveillance tool so the state can monitor for any upticks or clusters in new cases.

"Stop the Spread has been a crucial part of the Commonwealth's testing success," Baker said on May 12. "More than 2.3 million tests have been conducted as part of that program alone.

"It remains an important tool in the battle against COVID."
