Scholarship Created In Memory of Teen Killed in Salem Crash

Fundraiser to be held Friday night at Beverly's Italian Community Center.

The family of Dillon Renard, the Danvers teen killed in an alleged drunk driving accident in Salem, will host a scholarship fundraiser in his honor at the Beverly Italian Community Center, Friday night. 

The fundraiser, 'Dream for Dillon' will benefit the teen's scholarship fund, which will be awarded to a 2012 Salem High graduate who receives special education services. 

"Dillon's family has set up this scholarship fund in his memory so we can assist others fulfill a dream that Dillon never had a chance to see come true," the scholarship fund website said.

Renard was killed on June 16, 2012, after the vehicle he was a passenger in hit a tow truck on Boston Street in Salem. The driver, 25-year-old Angelique Griffin, faces charges of vehicular homicide and driving while intoxicated. 

Renard's family filed a wrongful death suit in July.

The 'Dream for Dillon' fundraiser will be held from 7-11:55 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 9. Donations are being accepted for a silent auction.
