U.S. Rep. Seth Moulton Weighs In On Britney Spears Saga
Moulton asks constituents whether Congress should investigate conservatorships after the beleaguered pop star shared her harrowing story.

SALEM, MA — U.S. Rep. Seth Moulton (D-Salem) became the latest national politician to react to the bizarre and unsettling Britney Spears saga Friday when he addressed her conservatorship on social media.
"This Britney Spears conservatorship — a word I didn’t know until yesterday — is some of the craziest s--- I've seen in a long time," Moulton declared in a Twitter post on Friday.
He then asked his constituents on the North Shore whether Congress should open hearings on the merits and ethics of conservatorships.

Spears demanded in a California courtroom on Wednesday that the 13-year conservatorship she has been living under be ended, saying she is forced to endure oppressive conditions comparable to slavery and sex-trafficking.
In an emotional, angry, sometimes profane speech, Spears told the judge overseeing her conservatorship she can't sleep and cries every day. She said her father, Jamie, her co-conservator, is abusive, controlling and "ignorant."
"The control he had over someone as powerful as me, as he loved the control, to hurt his daughter 100,000 percent he loved it," she charged.
She also told the court she wants to have her IUD (birth-control device) removed so she can try to have another baby, but the conservatorship would not allow it.
The one-time teen megastar's story has been gaining sympathy and momentum in recent years through the #FreeBritney movement and a documentary revealing details about the lack of control she has over her own life.
While in the past she has insisted she is doing well and in a good place, Wednesday she revealed the much darker side of how she said a conservatorship can be used to control an ostensibly healthy adult.
