Witchcraft Heights Classroom Featured In NY Times Story

The feature examines how Roneline Ramoutarsingh's third-grade class navigated the challenges of the coronavirus school year.

SALEM, MA —A Salem Witchcraft Heights third-grade class's struggles and success through the coronavirus school year was the subject of an extensive New York Times expose published on Sunday.

Roneline Ramoutarsingh's third-grade class was featured in the article looking at how a critical grade level for advancing reading and math skills fared amid a year of remote and hybrid learning, and then eventually a full classroom return by the end of the school year.

Among the determinations were that students generally did better with comprehension when it came to math skills than reading skills, and that the district will need to look to find ways this summer and into the next school year to try to make up for time lost to the coronavirus.
