#8 Case Upsets #4 Abington In Softball Semifinal, 5-3

Case broke a dreadlock in the fifth inning to win the game to advance to the Finals.

SWANSEA, MA- The #8 Case Cardinals faced the #4 Abington Green Wave in the MIAA Division 3 Softball South Sectional Tournament Semifinals. Case has crushed both #9 Nantucket (21-0) and #16 Bourne (16-3) so far in the tournament. Abington beat the #13 Old Colony Cougars out of Rochester and #5 Monomoy out of Harwich.

In the first inning, Case catcher Olivia Silva hit a stand-up double as the first hit of the game, then Alexandra Holden pinch-ran for Silva. Holden scored on a RBI double by Brooke Orton to make it 1-0. At the bottom of the inning, Addison Perry singled, moved to second on a bunt and scored on a RBI triple by Sirois. Sirois scored on a RBI single by a Casey Bailey taking the lead for Abington 2-1.

In the third inning, Olivia Silva singled and then scored on a RBI triple by Brooke Orton, and then Orton scored on a Wild Pitch and took back the lead for Case 3-2.

In the fourth inning, Abington’s Victoria Becker hit a solo home run to tie the game up at 3.

In the fifth inning, Case would score what would be the go-ahead run when Lilly Picard hit a 2 run double to make it 5-3, which is the final score.

Case will be facing #2 West Bridgewater on Saturday Night at 7 p.m. on the South Sectional Final and the winner of the game will move on to the Division 3 state tournament in which they would face the North sectional Champion and would fight for the state title.
