Bailey Could Challenge Sen. Timilty Again

The Attleboro Republican pastor says he is leaning toward another race, but he has not ruled out a second try at state Senate.

Jeff Bailey, who unsuccessfully ran against Democratic state Sen. James Timilty last year, could try a second challenge next year. However, the Republican pastor will likely stay out of the race, and attempt to dethrone Attleboro state Rep. Paul Heroux.

Speaking Monday night during the Attleboro Republican City Committee meeting at the All Saints Anglican Church, Bailey said he would run for state office in 2014.

"I'm not committing to anything, but right now I'm kind of leaning toward the state rep. seat," said Bailey, adding, "We'll see what the landscape looks like for state Senate as well."

Timilty represents Seekonk, but not Swansea, which is in Democratic Sen. Michael Rodrigues' district. Timilty's district also includes Mansfield, Norton, Rehoboth, Foxborough, Medfield, Walpole and portions of Attleboro and Sharon.

State Rep. Shaunna O'Connell (R-Taunton) is hosting a campaign kickoff fundraiser tonight in Mansfield for Bailey. It will take place from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at The Café at the Mansfield Sportsplex, located at 31 Oxford Road.
