The agenda includes items related to the senior center.

UPDATE: The meeting has been canceled and the agenda items will be moved to the regular meeting Wednesday due to the death of a selectman's family member, town Executive Assistant Anne Rogers wrote in an email.

Where Seekonk's seniors will meet and participate in programs while they wait for the voter-approved center near Town Hall to be built could be determined tonight by the Board of Selectmen. A rare Friday meeting has been scheduled for 6 p.m., with senior center issues as the only items on the agenda.

Selectmen voted earlier this year to move the seniors from the building on Pleasant Street that has been cited for several code violations and safety issues to a temporary location at the Knights of Columbus Hall on Arcade Avenue. This decision was met with protest by some people who wanted other options explored.

The school committee, which is the building's landlord, unofficially agreed at a meeting earlier this week to pay to fix two of the issues—installation of proper exit signs and inspection of fire extinguishers.

Also at the school committee meeting, Selectman and Senior Center Building Committee member Bob McLintock said the new senior center next to town hall would open in eight to 10 months.
