Emaciated Dog Rescued By Massachusetts Eversource Worker

Massachusetts Eversource worker Susan Sweeney called police after seeing two dogs living in "deplorable" conditions in Rochester.

ROCHESTER, MA — An emaciated dog was rescued by a Massachusetts Eversource worker during a recent routine call. The Animal Rescue League of Boston this week honored Susan Sweeney for her actions in February at a Rochester residence. She posted a notice on the door and noticed two dogs living in "deplorable" conditions.

“I’m a dog lover, I’ve always had a dog,” Sweeney said, according to the league. “But anyone in that situation would have done the same thing once they saw those dogs."

The dogs were immediately removed from the home. One, "Bentley," was severely dehydrated and emaciated, weighing just 20 pounds, according to Mary Nee, the league's president.

“She did what we hope everyone would do in that circumstance,” Nee said in a statement. “She saw unacceptable conditions and contacted police immediately – these animals survived because of her actions.”

The two dogs were treated at the Brewster Animal Care and Adoption Center. "Bentley" has put on weight and it was adopted along with its partner, named "Astro."

"This positive outcome would not have been possible without Susan Sweeney’s actions," Nee added.
