High School Concession Stand Named for Seekonk Volunteer

Robert McKenna III, who died in December, supported the schools and other youth programs.

An advocate for Seekonk youth will be memorialized at Seekonk High School with a concession stand bearing his name. The school committee voted unanimously Monday night to name the school's concession stand after Robert McKenna III, who died in December.

Superintendent Arlene Bosco said it was a fitting tribute because McKenna was the person who "made that concession stand run as well as it does" by making donations, providing materials and recruiting volunteers.

"He was so active in the district for such a long time; it is so meaningful," Bosco said.

Known by many people as the "unofficial mayor of Seekonk," McKenna served as president of the Seekonk Athletics Booster Club as well as the Seekonk High School and Martin School building committees. He also volunteered as a Cub Scout and Girl Scout Leader as well as a Little League and softball coach, and was involved in the "Big Brothers" program.

"I think it's a wonderful idea," said School Committee member Mitch Vieira of the dedication. "Bob McKenna gave so much of his life to volunteering for the high school and the town."
